LMi.net Windows NT Server Setup

NOTE: IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU INSTALL NT SERVICE PACK 3. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL WORK WITHOUT IT.

Please follow the instructions below to configure your WindowsNT with LMi.net Internet Access. If you have any questions or problems, please contact LMi.net technical support at 510-843-6389 or e-mail support@lmi.net.

Installing Dial-Up Networking:

Dial-up Networking may or may not be installed on your machine. If it is not installed, this section will walk you through the installation. If it is already installed, this section will make no sense and you can skip this section.

  1. START -> PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> DIAL-UP NETWORKING
  2. Click the INSTALL button.
  3. You will need to select or install your modem type, then press OK
  4. Click the CONFIGURE... button and select DIAL-OUT ONLY.
  5. Select OK and click on the NETWORK button.
  6. Select TCP/IP only, then select OK.
  7. At the RAS window, select OK one more time.
  8. Windows will now need to copy files and restart.

Creating A Phonebook Entry:

After Dial-Up Networking is installed, you will need to add a LMi.net phonebook entry. This will tell the computer who it should dial when you want to connect to.

  1. START -> PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> DIAL-UP NETWORKING
  2. Click the NEW button.
  3. Type LMi.net as the name of your new phonebook entry, then click NEXT.
  4. Now, make sure only the following things are checked...
    I am Calling The Internet.
    Send My Plain Text Password...
  5. Make sure everything else is unchecked and press NEXT.
  6. Enter the LMi.net number nearest you, then click NEXT.
  7. Press FINISH

Configuring Dial-Up Networking:

Now it is time to configure Dial-Up Networking with LMi.net. You will need to follow these instructions to configure your TCP/IP settings.

  1. From the Dial-Up Networking window, press the MORE button.
  2. Select "EDIT ENTRY AND MODEM PROPERTIES".
  3. Click on the SECURITY tab and select "ACCEPT ANY AUTHENTICATION..."
  4. Click on the SERVER tab and unselect "ENABLE PPP LCP EXTENSIONS".
  5. Uncheck IPX/SPX and NETBEUI if they are checked.
  6. Click on the TCP/IP SETTINGS button.
  7. Make sure the following is selected:
    Server Assigned IP Address
    Specify Name Server Address
    Primary DNS: 208.25.88.6
    Secondary DNS: 208.25.64.5
  8. Click OK, and OK again.

Connecting To The Internet:

Hopefully, all of this hard work has paid off and you will now be able to connect to the Internet using LMi.net. This section will describe what you will need to do to connect to the Internet.

  1. Before trying to connect, take a break and restart the computer.
  2. Open Dial-Up Networking. (as you did before)
  3. Press the DIAL button
  4. Type in your login name in all lowercase letters.
  5. Next, type in the password you have selected with us.
  6. Do not put anything in the domain field.
  7. Hit that CONNECT button and wait for WindowsNT to let you know that you are connected.

After connecting, you can open any Internet applications that you would like to use. (ie. Netscape, Explorer, Eudora, etc...)
